According to a research viruses can survive and reproduce more effectively during colder temperatures, making it easier for them to spread and infect more people. It should be noted that cold weather could also reduce the immune response and make it harder for the body to fight off germs. 

This is why our immune systems often needs a little extra support during the winter. Here are a few delicious and nutritious drinks that can keep the immune system strong and ward off those seasonal illnesses.

  1. Turmeric and Ginger Tea

Ingredients needed:

1 cup hot water

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

1 tablespoon honey

Juice of half a lemon 

Method of preparation:

  • Add the turmeric and ginger to a cup of hot water.
  • Stir in the honey and lemon juice.
  • Let it steep for 5-10 minutes before drinking.

Ingredients needed:

1 green tea bag

  1. Kadha / Kashayam

Ingredients Needed:

5 leaves of tulsi or holy basil

1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder

Pinch of black pepper powder

1 teaspoon of dry ginger

Few raisins

Jaggery or lemon juice as per taste 

Preparation Method:

  • Add tulsi leaves and all the spices in 2 cups of water.
  • Boil the concoction on a low flame for 5 - 10 minutes till all the goodness of the spices steep in.
  • Strain and add jaggery or lemon juice according to taste.
  • Serve it warm.

Ingredients Needed: 

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • Warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add turmeric, cinnamon, honey, and black pepper.
  • Stir well and let it simmer for a few minutes.
